Boracay Island...

Boracay is a tropical island of the Philippines located approximately 315km (196 mi) south of Manila and 2km off the northwest tip of Panay Islands in the Western Visayas region of the Philippines.  Boracay Island and its beaches have received awards numerous times. Awarded in the "Travelers' Choice 2011" by TripAdvisor as the second best beach (out of 25) in the world. Boracay made a debut appearance on the Top 10 Islands list in the Travel + Leisure travel magazine World's Best Awards 2011, ranking fourth.  

This is one of the famous destination of tourists in the country.  The beaches of Boracay Island is located off the north-western tip of Panay Island, Philippines.  Boracay is world famous and is almost always the first beach mentioned when tourist, foreign & locals alike talk about vacation places in the Philippines.


The island of Boracay is 7.5 kilometers long and 2 kilometers wide.  The popular powdery White Sand Beach (which take up most of the western side of the island) is where most of tourist go to see.  Boracay Island has electricity and piped water and has grown into an international tourist hub with 20 dive sites, scores of bars and restaurants, native tattoo parlours, banks, a fire department, and a police station.  There are also lots of Tourist Center that serve as a souvenir shop and an airline reservation center.

Climate:  During the dry season (Nov-Apr), also known as Amihan, White Beach is calm and very suitable for swimming, etc.  The other side of the island has large winds and waves making it suitable for wind surfing, wave running, etc.  During the month of June-October, is the rainy season also known as Habagat, stronger winds and larger waves makes surfing more exciting and fun. How to get here:  If you want to go to Boracay by plane, from Manila's domestic airport, get flights to Boracay either via Kalibo (1 hour and 45 minutes away) or via Caticlan (10-20 minutes by boat).  From Kalibo airport, air-conditioned vans and buses for hire will take you to Caticlan Jetty Port, where boats are stationed to carry you to the island.  Fastest is from Manila to Caticlan Airport then Caticlan Jeety port to Boracay island.  Prepare from Php4,000 to Php5,000 ($100 to 125) one way airfare.

What to do:  There are lot of exciting things to do, whether you're looking for fun, adventures, extreme games and sports, or simply relax.  Make most of your time in water adventures like surfing, scuba diving, boat tours, island hopping, kiteboarding, skimboarding and the likes.  Have a massage or spa for a deeper relaxation.  At night, chat with new friends locals and foreign tourists as well, at disco bars and other night club hang outs.  The nightlife of Boracay is very lively with the numerous clubs and bars spanning the whole stretch of the beach.  It is specially so during Lent & Christmas season when Boracay Island is transformed into a big fiesta.  It is the time when local & foreign tourist come in droves.  But whatever season, if partying is your cup of tea, then the nightlife of Boracay is for you.

PHILIPPINE TRAVEL VISA

Foreign nationals are allowed to enter and travel within the Philippines for 21 days without a visa provided that they have valid tickets for their return journey to their port of origin or to their next travel destination port and that their passports are valid for a period of at least six (6) months.  Extension of stay is available at the Philippine Bureau of Immigration after paying a minimal fee.  For stays longer than 21 days, a Temporary Visitors Visa is required.


Exceptions:  Passport holders of Hongkong Special Administrative Region (SAR), British National Overseas (BNO) and Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) passport holders are only allowed up to 7 days stay wihtout a visa.  Foreign nationals from Brazil and Israel are allowed up to 59 days without a visa.
